Clarksville Civitan International

When it comes to community service, not many are as impressive as the Clarksville Civitan Club. The Civitan Club does incredible work with 100 years of service and dedication to the Clarksville community. That’s one of the many reasons Wyatt Johnson has supported and sponsored the Clarksville Civitan.

Our most recent involvement with the Clarksville Civitan Club was sponsoring their 2022 Scavenger Hunt at this year’s River Fest. The fundraiser offered a chance for participants to explore and discover local businesses, support their community, and of course, win a prize of $10,000 and $250 cash drawings, all for a great cause. That great cause is a scholarship worth $8,000 for one lucky Austin Peay State University student, with which the Civitan has a long-standing relationship, with many of their current members also being alumni of APSU.

Aside from the Scavenger Hunt, The Clarksville Civitan also runs fundraisers that benefit the Civitan International Research Center. Located in Birmingham, Alabama, this center is responsible for a wide variety of successful research including into various disabilities, PTSD in veterans and abuse victims, as well as Parkinson’s. The CIRC is also responsible for a leading brain cancer treatment using spider venom.

The Clarksville Civitan has been a staple of the Clarksville community for years and we at Wyatt Johnson are proud to be a part of their mission. If you would like to learn more about how the Civitan helps communities all over the world, you can visit their website! The Clarksville Civitan has a lot in the works and we can’t wait to partner with them again soon!

Nashville, TN Street Parking

Nashville is truly an incredible city everyone should visit at least once in their lives. However, like other big cities, it has its pitfalls. Parking is a common one across the board and Nashville is no exception.

As a Nashville resident, you know that parking downtown can be hard to come by, especially on weekends. With street parking as one of only a few options available to you, it’s simply an unavoidable part of your life behind the wheel. So, if you have to park on the street, you may as well stay safe. Below are some basic things every Wyatt Johnson Volkswagen driver can do to ensure the safety of their vehicle when parking on the street.

Tools of the Trade | Street Parking in Nashville

Having to parallel park on a busy street can certainly be nerve-wracking. In fact,  parallel parking is something that many drivers struggle with, but it’s still an important skill to master. So, how comfortable are you with parallel parking? More importantly, can you parallel park? Because if the answer to either of these questions is no, you may want to just pony up the twenty-or-so bucks required to gain access to an oversaturated parking garage. However, if you have the mettle to take on the tall task of parallel parking on a busy city street, keep reading.

Tips To Master Street Parking

  • Read the street signs: A common joke among big-city drivers, street signs are something that should be simple to interpret but, oftentimes, are not. With differing messages, time restraints, and symbols all coexisting on the same small rectangular sign, parking legally on the street can require some focus and mental fortitude. Take your time, read the signs and ensure that you won’t be returning to a freshly booted vehicle.
  • Park under street lights, not tree branches: If possible, it’s always a good idea to park your car in a well-lit area. In general, the more visible your car is, the safer it will be. On the other hand, parking under trees should be avoided whenever possible. Trees shed debris with rain and wind and, on occasion, come down completely in severe weather. Not to mention bird poop is rather annoying, especially with a convertible.
  • Fold in side mirrors: One of the easiest ways to protect your car when parking on the street is by simply folding in your driver-side side mirror. This prevents an irresponsible driver from passing too close to your parked car, clipping off your mirror, and continuing on with their day, leaving you with the bill for repairs.
  • Take or hide your things and lock up: On average, over 80,000 unlocked cars are stolen yearly. That’s right, unlocked cars. So, while this may seem like an obvious tip, it is an important one. Lock your car, take your keys with you and be sure that no valuables are visible to people passing by and peeking in. Make sure potential thieves are not interested in your car or anything inside it.
  • Hey Google, Save My Location: People are forgetful. We forget our keys, our phones, our wallets. Heck, sometimes we forget whether or not our kids are in the backseat. We also, on occasion, forget where we park. Prevent this issue by dropping a pin on your maps app before you leave your ride behind. Then, when you’re ready to return, simply pull up the pin and find your ride in no time.

Investments To Think About

  • Car wash: Getting your car washed about every two weeks is a great way to make sure your car looks presentable. Beyond that, it shows would-be thieves that you pay attention to your vehicle. Oftentimes, car thieves target vehicles that look neglected. The idea here is that they will have more time after the theft to do with the car what they want before the owner even notices it’s gone. So, protect your car’s exterior appearance and show people you care about your ride with frequent washes.
  • Snow cover: A snow cover or car blanket protects your car from all elements. Whether that’s snow, hail, tree debris, or bird droppings, a cover is a great way to protect your ride and prevent passersby from seeing what’s inside.
  • Sunshade: Over time, constant exposure to the sunlight will cause fading and cracks on your dash and other areas of your interior. A sunshade is a great way to protect your car’s interior and prevent potential thieves from seeing something worth stealing in your car.
  • Catalytic converter shield: This may sound like an unnecessary precaution, but when you consider the fact that an experienced thief can steal a catalytic converter in about two minutes, that $350 shield is looking a lot better than a $2,000+ converter.

Make Street Parking Second Nature

With more and more people moving to major metropolitan areas each year, parking in areas like Dayton is getting harder and harder to find, while inventory for car thieves has never been higher. However, if you follow these steps, you can rest easy knowing that you’ve done all you can to protect your car while it’s parked on the street.

2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Vs 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Vs 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

With the future of mobility having shifted towards electric cars, German automaker Volkswagen (VW) has announced its plan for multiple models within a few years. It is using the ID moniker for such vehicles, the first of which is the 2021 VW ID.4, a compact crossover. On the other hand, American manufacturer Ford has moved away from its bevy of sedans and has turned towards SUVs. The 2021 Mustang Mach-E brings the company at par with other manufacturers in the US market.

Points to Compare:

1) External Appearance- ID.4 seems to sport a more traditional appearance from the front as compared to the bold design on the Mach-E. Instead of the blue Ford logo, buyers will notice the pony, which indicates how much importance Ford gives to the Mustang brand, where the Mustang is a ‘muscular pony car’. Compared to this, a simple and blue VW logo is present on the ID.4. The hood line on the ID.4 is slightly higher than that on the Mach-E. Interestingly, it’s the Ford that comes with trunk space at the front and not the ID.4.

Full LED headlights are also standard on both, although they look more conventional on the VW. The ID.4 is smaller than the Mach-E in length. The rear end is clearly sleeker and sexier for the Mach-E, especially the sequential LED taillights.

2) Cargo Capacity- The ID.4 is the boxier vehicle of these two and offers only a little more cargo space than the Mach-E. 30.3 cubic feet is available on the former, as compared to 29.7 cubic feet on the latter. Taller people can sit comfortably at the rears of both vehicles.

3) Braking Performance- One dynamic factor that does not favor Volkswagen is braking performance. Any person driving the two cars will find the Mustang’s braking performance to be better. The Mach-E’s have a much more natural feel about them, and they are able to execute stoppages smoothly and confidently. In comparison, while bringing the ID.4 down from high speeds, the pedal feels strangely mushy and inconsistent, which is a common complaint among EVs (Electric Vehicles) that combine regenerative braking from the e-motor with mechanical brake mechanisms at the wheel.

4) Ground Clearance- Ground clearance on the 2021 VW ID.4 (8.2 inches) is significantly more than what is available for the 2021 Mustang Mach-E (5.7 inches).

5) Engine Options- All 2021 Mustang Mach-E cars come standard with RWD (Rear Wheel Drive), while AWD (All Wheel Drive) is also available. The electric engine can produce 266 hp of power and 317 lb-ft of torque when combined with a single-speed automatic transmission. For an electric vehicle, the 0-60 time is 3.5 seconds, which is impressive. The 2021 VW ID4’s single electric motor, along with the battery, produces 201 hp and 229 lb-ft. Power is raised to 302 hp when two electric motors are used. In terms of acceleration, the ID.4 is an entire second slower to the Mach-E while running from 0-60 mph.

6) Fuel Efficiency- There’s not much to choose from in terms of fuel efficiency here. Expect the ID.4 to be at 104/89/97 MPGe as opposed to the Mach- E with 108/94/101. (City/Highway/Combined).

Although the ID.4 does appear to be a more refined vehicle, the Mach-E is perfectly suited to be driven every day.

2021 Volkswagen Jetta Vs. 2021 Hyundai Elantra

2021 Volkswagen Jetta Vs. 2021 Hyundai Elantra

The 2021 Volkswagen Jetta and 2021 Hyundai Elantra offer plenty of passenger space and a variety of engine options from economical to sporty. The Jetta offers European sophistication and luxury along with a spacious cabin and excellent driving dynamics. In comparison, the Elantra offers everything from hybrid to track-specifically tuned variants. Here’s a closer look at the two, across different parameters:

  1. Fuel Economy– The 2021 Jetta proves to be the less frugal of the two sedans, offering a combined fuel economy of 34 MPG. Buyers can expect the 2021 Elantra to deliver a combined figure of 37 MPG.
  2. Warranty– Hyundai scores better than Volkswagen (VW) in terms of both standard and powertrain warranties. Here are the figures for the two cars:
VehicleStandard WarrantyPowertrain Warranty
2021 VW Jetta4 years or 50,000 miles5 years or 60,000 miles
2021 Hyundai Elantra4 years or 50,000 miles10 years or 100,000 miles
  • Cargo Space– There’s virtually nothing to choose between available cargo volumes for the two sedans. While the Jetta offers 14.1 cubic feet, the Elantra is marginally better at 14.2 cubic feet.
  • Updates for 2021– The Jetta was updated for 2019, but there weren’t many changes after that. Their trim levels have been updated a bit, with the S getting new 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels and the SE getting a 6-way driver’s seat and contrasting stitching on the steering wheel and shifter. The MIB3 infotainment system is now standard on the SEL trim, while adaptive cruise control is now available on the GLI Autobahn. Compared to before, 2021 sees a completely new design of the Hyundai Elantra. The Elantra just keeps getting better as time goes by, offering strong standard equipment and a range of engines to choose from, all at a fair price. The N-Line with its 4-cylinder turbo is at the top of the range. Some improvements were also made in the interior.
  • Trim Levels– Buyers will be able to choose from the following five trim levels of the 2021 VW Jetta:
  • SE
  • S
  • SEL
  • SEL Premium
  • R-Line

Relatively speaking, the 2021 Hyundai Elantra has lesser options, in terms of four trims- SEL, SE, N-Line, and Limited.

  • Engine Options– The 2021 Jetta is available with a single engine and the 2021 Elantra offers two. Expect a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 147 hp and 132 lbs.-ft of torque here, mated to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. There is one other engine available for GLI models, which is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 228 hp and 258 lbs.-ft of torque. Customers can choose either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). Overall, the Jetta is very sophisticated and a lot of fun to drive. A hybrid option is also available for the 2021 Elantra.
  • Interiors– Although the VW Jetta is a compact sedan, it offers plenty of space inside. The seats are very comfortable and high quality materials have been used. Elantra’s sloping roofline doesn’t restrict rear-seat headroom; The vehicle’s facelift has increased leg and shoulder room in the rear seats.
How to Make the Most of Your Test Drive

How to Make the Most of Your Test Drive

Nowadays there is a lot of information on all types of vehicles on the Internet. However, no buyer should make the mistake of testing the future vehicle just by reviewing its test results. The inputs of everyone during the journeys are different, which is why a test drive is very important. The main driver is the one who must drive and analyze the vehicle.

What is a Test Drive?

A test drive should determine whether a vehicle is suitable or not. A lot of money and time is spent on a vehicle, so research is carried out to ensure happiness with the purchase. Reputation and brand alone are not enough to perfectly tailor a car to a person’s needs. Customers may be reluctant to take a test drive for fear of exposure to a high-pressure sales pitch. If that’s inconvenient, try a no-haggling pricing program to ease the stress of buying a car.

Here are some ways to get the most from a test drive:

  1. Knowing The Importance of Individual Opinion: Online car research goes beyond reading car reviews and analyzing data, which used to be the only important aspects of buying a car. However, don’t confuse an expert’s perspective with the absolute truth. Don’t think that your review is tailored to everyone’s specific needs.
  2. Understand When to Follow the Experts– Yes, it is important to form an individual judgment about the car to be bought (such as seating comfort or driving characteristics), but car reviews are still an important part of the process. There are many aspects that cannot be experienced in a test. You can learn to drive a car from the experts. Don’t rule out the possibility completely.
  3. Don’t Forget Comfort– It may be tempting to focus only on the most important features, such as the size and price of the vehicle, but resist the temptation. Don’t be fooled into overlooking some of the car’s features, even if they seem small at this point. The problem for many car buyers is the acceptance of certain properties in their new vehicles; they are often disappointed with real vehicles. It is important to make a list of the goals to be achieved here.
  4. Drive as Though Owned– There is no one-size-fits-all approach to driving testing. The best practice is to consider the types of driving that are done regularly and make sure the vehicle can handle them. If a daily / weekly routine involves long journeys on the freeway, property, or crowded city streets, make sure the test drive includes similar scenarios. Some car dealerships may allow you to take a test drive of 20 miles or more.
  5. Another Point of View– It would help to bring another person along to get a different perspective on the vehicle as well. Always aim to look beyond the driver’s seat; rear seat comfort and boot space are important here.
2021 Mazda3 Turbo Vs 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI

2021 Mazda3 Turbo Vs 2021 Volkswagen Golf GTI

The 2021 Mazda3 Turbo is an upgraded version of the Japanese company’s compact hatchback and sedan that has been around since 2013. Rather than being a “wild kid”, the new Mazda3 Turbo is designed to deliver exceptional performance while remaining mature and habitable. It also sounds a lot like the thinking behind the Volkswagen (VW) GTI 2021, which is often referred to as the final hot hatch. The price of the two vehicles is also quite similar. After you’ve driven both, people may have a hard time comparing their specs, details of which are detailed here.

  1. Ride and Handling:

When it comes to driving behavior and handling, Mazda prefers comfort over performance; However, the GTI has an additional feature that allows it to excel in both: entry-level and mid-range GTIs have fixed suspension, but the higher-end variant has adjustable dampers that allow the driver to tweak the settings. A neutral and expressive chassis and a fast but robust steering wheel are further features of the GTI.

  • Drivetrains:

Buyers can expect the Mazda3 Turbo to be available with standard AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) in 2021. On the other hand, FWD is the standard drivetrain for the 2021 VW Golf GTI. The hatchback maintains its balance even under strong pressure. While the FWD is fine on the GTI, it’s not as effective at balancing.

  • Suspension Settings

In the case of high-performance hatchbacks, it is only natural that a lot of handling and handling must be described here. The Mazda3 Turbo only comes with a fixed suspension that adapts gently. It is more comfortable but offers a little more body roll than the VW GTI. Slower and easier than most, but still pretty accurate and provides enough information to be fun. Both cars are relatively quiet, with a slight roar of their engines.

  • Engines and Performance

Both the Mazda3 Turbo and the VW GTI have turbocharged four-cylinder engines, but there are a few distinctions worth noting here. With an extra 500 cc engine displacement, the Mazda produces more power and greater torque as well. However, its engine is built in a manner that its power and boost are linear and seamless, much like a naturally aspirated engine. Despite being accurate, it’s not as exciting as the GTI. Here’s a look at the figures for both. The 2021 Mazda3 Turbo gets a 2.5 liter, turbo, 4cylinder mill with 250 hp of power and 320 lbs.-ft of torque while being connected to a 6speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the 2021 VW GTI produces 228 hp and 258 lbs.-ft through a 2.0liter engine. Two transmission options are available here 7speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) and 6speed manual.

  • Outside Appearances:

Both Mazda and VW have a sporty exterior design that is sleek and subtle. Small spoilers and partitions as well as clean sheet metal replace huge fenders and ventilation openings. The Mazda, on the other hand, is dizzy and curvy, while the VW is straight and upright; it’s 8 inches longer than the VW, however; they are both within an inch of one another in height and width.

  • Interior Space:

Virtually the same space is available inside in both cars, though the GTI seems more spacious for rear passengers.
