Wondering whether to purchase the new 2024 Volkswagen Jetta or the new 2024 Toyota Corolla? Our compact car comparison below will help you determine which sedan suits your needs and preferences. Keep reading to see which sedan takes the lead in our matchup of the VW Jetta vs. Toyota Corolla.

Volkswagen Jetta vs. Toyota Corolla Specs

Performance

Volkswagen Jetta for Sale near Nashville

The new 2024 Volkswagen Jetta has one engine option: a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct-injection TSI® engine that is capable of 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The new 2024 Toyota Corolla has a standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine that can achieve 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. Its hybrid trims come with a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. As these options show, you’ll enjoy similar power while driving these models, though the Jetta outperforms its rival in terms of torque.

Car enthusiasts will be glad to hear that the Jetta comes with two transmission options: a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an available 8-speed automatic transmission. This means that those who want full control of every drive through manual shifting won’t have to settle for less. In contrast, the Corolla only offers automatic transmission options: a Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). While you can equip your Corolla with paddle shifters (located on the steering wheel), you won’t find the same thrilling driving experience with this model as you will with the Jetta.

Comfort and Convenience

2024 Jetta Interior

Both of these sedans have seating for five, so whether you’re solo commuting or road tripping with friends, either car will meet your needs. Both models can be equipped with a sunroof/moonroof that will let in the sunlight and provide gorgeous views of starry skies during night drives. However, if you’re planning to transport people regularly in your sedan, keep in mind that the Jetta has a slightly higher total passenger volume with a sunroof (93.9 cubic feet as opposed to the Corolla’s 88.6 cubic feet with moonroof). This means the Jetta provides a more comfortable journey for both front- and back-seat passengers.

You can enjoy available heated seats on higher trims of either sedan, making cold mornings more pleasant. Only the Jetta offers available heated rear seats and available ventilation for the front seats, features that elevate this sedan above its rival. Additionally, the Jetta comes with a standard leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, but a leather-trimmed steering wheel is only available on higher Corolla trims. All in all, the Jetta offers more for your money when it comes to interior comfort.

Safety

VW Jetta Safety Cage

Both Volkswagen and Toyota are known for incorporating advanced safety and driver assistance features in their models as part of their respective systems (Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE and Toyota’s TSS 3.0). The Jetta and the Corolla come equipped with standard driver assistance features that help you stay in your lane, warn you about potential collisions, and detect pedestrians ahead. You can also stay alert with a Blind Spot Monitor in either model; it comes standard in the Jetta, but you’ll have to purchase an optional package to get it in the lowest Toyota trim. For improved visibility at night, both sedans come with standard LED headlights and taillights.

Fall car care service tips at Wyatt Johnson Volkswagen near Nashville.

How to Get Your Car Ready for Fall

Fall is such a beautiful season, but before you go sight-seeing, it’s important to tackle some of autumn’s unique challenges for your car. That’s why our Volkswagen service center in Clarksville is here to help! You need to make sure your car is prepared for the changing weather and road conditions, and we have the must-follow service tips for you. Here are some things you can do to get your car ready for fall:

  1. Keep Your Tires Inflated: The air in your tires contracts when it gets colder, which lowers the tire pressure. Low tire pressure can affect your car’s performance and safety. Check your tire pressure regularly and inflate them to the recommended level. This will help you save gas, extend your tire life, and improve your handling. Visit our tire center near Nashville to get your car driving the way it needs to.
  2. Test Your Battery: Your car’s battery can lose power in cold weather, which can leave you stranded. Before the temperature drops, have your battery checked to see if it’s still in good shape. If it’s older than three years, you’ll want to get a battery replacement, which you can get at our service center in Clarksville.
  3. Change Your Wiper Blades: Rain and leaves can make your windshield dirty and reduce your visibility. Make sure your wiper blades are clean and working well. If they’re old or damaged, replace them with new ones. You’ll be able to see better and drive safer.
  4. Check Your Lights: The days get shorter and the nights get longer in the fall, which means you’ll be using your lights more often. Check all your lights, including headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals, to make sure they’re all bright and clear.
  5. Test Your Heater and Defroster: You’ll need your heater and defroster to keep you warm and comfortable in the cold weather. Test them out before you need them to make sure they’re functioning properly. If you notice any problems, have them fixed as soon as possible.
  6. Inspect Your Brakes: Stopping can be harder in wet or icy conditions, which can increase the risk of accidents. Have your brakes inspected by a professional to make sure they’re in good condition. This will give you more confidence and control when driving. Get quality brake service in Clarksville at our Volkswagen Service Center.
  7. Check Your Fluids: Your fluids are essential for keeping your car running smoothly. Check all your fluids, such as engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid, to make sure they’re at the right levels and clean. If they’re low or dirty, refill or replace them as needed. If you’re near Nashville, you can get a quick and easy oil change in Clarksville at our service center.
  8. Prepare an Emergency Kit: It’s always smart to have an emergency kit in your car, especially during the fall and winter seasons. Include items like a flashlight, extra batteries, blankets, a first aid kit, non-perishable snacks, and a portable phone charger.

By following the five tips carcare tips below, you’ll ensure your car is as ready as ever for the big trip! Plus, if you need help, Wyatt Johnson Kia’s Service Center will take care of the rest!

  1. Check Your Tire Condition: Proper tire maintenance is crucial for a safe and comfortable road trip. Start by checking the tire pressure and ensure it matches the recommended levels stated in your vehicle’s manual. Inspect the tires for any signs of wear, bulges, or cuts and make sure the tread depth is adequate for optimal traction. Consider rotating or replacing your tires if necessary. Don’t forget to check the spare tire as well! If you see anything that seems off, our Volkswagen Tire Center has you covered!
  2. Get a Comprehensive Inspection: A thorough, multi-point inspection performed by our technicians will assess your vehicle’s overall condition, including the engine, brakes, fluids, belts, and hoses. Addressing any potential issues beforehand can save you from unexpected breakdowns on the road. Also, make sure your oil and filter are changed if due, and top up all fluids, including coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
  3. Test Your Battery: The last thing you want on your road trip is a dead battery. Have your battery tested to ensure it’s in good condition and holds a proper charge. Extreme temperatures can put additional strain on the battery, so it’s especially important to check it before embarking on a summer road trip. If it’s old or showing signs of weakness, consider replacing your battery for peace of mind during your travels.
  4. Inspect Your Lights and Wipers: Proper visibility is essential for safe driving. Check that all your exterior lights are functioning correctly, including headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and taillights. Replace any burnt-out bulbs before hitting the road. Additionally, inspect your windshield wipers for signs of wear and replace them if necessary. Summer rainstorms can pop up unexpectedly, and you want to ensure clear visibility at all times.
  5. Make Sure You Have Your Emergency Essentials: Prepare for the unexpected by packing an emergency kit in your car. Include essentials such as a first aid kit, flashlight, jumper cables, tire pressure gauge, basic tools, and a portable phone charger. It’s also a good idea to have a roadside assistance contact number handy in case you need assistance during your trip. Car Warning lights and what they may mean

What Your Dashboard Lights Mean

We’ve all been there: you notice a symbol light up on your dashboard and then the anxiety begins. What does it mean? How serious is it? What do I do next? Don’t worry! We got you covered. Let’s go over some the most common symbols and discover what they mean and find out when you’ll need to visit our service center.

Symbols and their meanings:

Anti-lock brake warning light
  • Anti-lock brake warning light:

If the anti-lock braking system or ABS lights up, there is a fault in the braking system. The purpose of anti-lock brakes is to maintain control and balance between the vehicle and the road. So, it is important that the problem is diagnosed as soon as possible when the ABS lights come on.

Battery alert
  • Battery alert:

This symbol means that there is a problem with the vehicle’s charging system. You will be surprised to learn that often the main cause of a battery warning light is not the battery, but something else that triggered it, whether it’s a faulty alternator or something else. Either way, it’s best to visit our dealership ASAP to ensure you don’t end up stranded somewhere.

Engine warning
  • Engine warning:

Your check engine light can appear for a number of reasons. First, it can be something serious that can cause you to pull over right away, such as overheating of the vehicle engine or low oil pressure. On the flip side, it can occur if the fuel cap is not securely attached or if it has a crack that allows fuel to evaporate. It should be something service techs can easily diagnose pretty quickly, so it’s smart to stop by a service center.

Low fuel indicator
  • Low fuel indicator:

If you have been driving for a long time, you should know this symbol. This is a sign that you are running out of gas. If you run out of fuel, don’t ignore it. Instead, stop at a nearby gas station and refuel so you can reach your destination without worrying about running out of fuel or gasoline.

Oil pressure light
  • Oil pressure light:

When the oil pressure lamp comes on, it shows the image of an oil can with dripping oil. When you see this, you should schedule an oil change ASAP, because it means your vehicle is running dangerously low on oil. Without fresh oil, your car is at major risk of severe engine damage, so the sooner you can get it into a service center, the better.

Traction control light
  • Traction control light:

This light indicates that your vehicle’s traction control system is activated. The traction indicator light uses the anti-lock braking system to determine if the wheels are spinning faster than normal, which can happen in rain or snowy weather. If your vehicle’s traction control system is damaged, defective, or there is a sensor malfunction, this light will come on. This light can also appear if there are problems with a vehicle’s ABS. It’s best to let service technicians diagnose the issue.

Conclusion

Now that you know which light is on your dashboard, you know what kind of service you need to schedule! At Wyatt Johnson Volkswagen, our expert service technicians are always here to help, whether it’s with our state-of-the-art service center or being ready to save you big with our service specials. Whether you’re in Clarksville or live near Nashville, you’ll find out why drivers choose to service with us. Visit us today! We’ll get you back on the road in no time.

Wyatt Johnson Volkswagen Winter Car prep checklist

For the majority of the year, driving conditions are pretty tepid. But the true test of your integrity as a car owner, and the quality of your car comes during the winter months. This is when you can truly get punished for not taking care of your car unless you take care of the necessary winter car prep. Between harsh winter weather and the toll the cold, ice, snow, and salt can take, you really have to step up your winter car care game to get your vehicle winter ready.

We don’t want to see you or your car on the side of the road this winter season. The best way to avoid any issues is to make sure your car is ready to take on whatever the next few months have in store. So before things get really rough, here are 5 simple winter car care tips that will help you and your car be ready for the colder months ahead.

Juice Up Your Battery

Having to wait for a jump in the middle of the cold and possibly snow is up there with the worst things to happen in winter. If you don’t check your battery before the cold weather sets in, you’re really taking a gamble. The extreme cold that we tend to see can make it difficult for your battery to operate. And the last thing you want is to come back to your car left in a cold parking lot and find it dead leaving you with no heat. The best advice you’ll get today is to get a volt test on your battery now. This will tell you what the health of your battery looks like and whether or not you should invest in a new battery.

Maintain Your Tires

When it comes to driving in winter, the quality of your tires is paramount. But it’s not just about what kind of tires you have but keeping an eye on your tire pressure as well. Investing in winter tires or all-season tires is a great idea and one we highly recommend. You want something that you can rely on for snow, rain, mud, and anything else you may encounter this year. However, something that gets overlooked often is tire pressure. As the air gets colder, tire pressure can drop up to one pound per square inch with every 10-degree drop. Keep an eye on your tire pressure and make sure you fill them if they are looking low.

Check Your Fluids

Every fluid in your car is going to help it perform the best it can during the colder months. For this reason, it’s very important that all of your fluid levels are good and fresh. Change your oil and filters if it’s coming near time, flush and refill your coolant/antifreeze, and fill your windshield wiper fluid. Doing all of these now will ensure that your car works the way it should even when temperatures drop.

Wash Your Car

This may seem like a weird thing to do, but it’s surprisingly important. However, this is something that you should do throughout the winter months. As more snow hits the roads, the county will salt those roads in an effort to keep them as clear as possible. But that salt will also end up on your car, especially all over your undercarriage. While the salt really helps the roads, it can wreak havoc on your car and cause rust. That is unless you give it a good wash after a big snow. Both an automatic and manual wash will work, as long as you can hit your undercarriage well.

Pack an Emergency Kit

Everything is all fun and games until your car dies in the middle of a snowstorm. Whether you slid on ice or something happened with your engine, or maybe even ran out of gas, having an emergency kit may just save your life. Depending on the weather and where you are, you definitely need to be prepared for anything. Here are some things you should have packed:

  • First-aid kit
  • Jumper cables
  • Snow brush and ice scraper
  • Flares
  • Multi-tool with a knife
  • Portable charger
  • Air pump
  • Shovel
  • Cat litter or sand
  • Candle and lighter
  • Thermal blanket
  • Snacks and water

Stay Safe Out There

Winter can be a crazy time, but making your vehicle winter ready ahead of time can go a long way. These are just a couple of things you can do, but there’s always more. Do your research and talk with our fantastic service technicians about what you should have done before the colder months are on top of us. Be smart and stay safe this holiday season!

Clarksville Civitan International

When it comes to community service, not many are as impressive as the Clarksville Civitan Club. The Civitan Club does incredible work with 100 years of service and dedication to the Clarksville community. That’s one of the many reasons Wyatt Johnson has supported and sponsored the Clarksville Civitan.

Our most recent involvement with the Clarksville Civitan Club was sponsoring their 2022 Scavenger Hunt at this year’s River Fest. The fundraiser offered a chance for participants to explore and discover local businesses, support their community, and of course, win a prize of $10,000 and $250 cash drawings, all for a great cause. That great cause is a scholarship worth $8,000 for one lucky Austin Peay State University student, with which the Civitan has a long-standing relationship, with many of their current members also being alumni of APSU.

Aside from the Scavenger Hunt, The Clarksville Civitan also runs fundraisers that benefit the Civitan International Research Center. Located in Birmingham, Alabama, this center is responsible for a wide variety of successful research including into various disabilities, PTSD in veterans and abuse victims, as well as Parkinson’s. The CIRC is also responsible for a leading brain cancer treatment using spider venom.

The Clarksville Civitan has been a staple of the Clarksville community for years and we at Wyatt Johnson are proud to be a part of their mission. If you would like to learn more about how the Civitan helps communities all over the world, you can visit their website! The Clarksville Civitan has a lot in the works and we can’t wait to partner with them again soon!
